Japan Flora: Stems 10-15 cm. long from an elongate creeping base; leaves several, ob-long-ovate or ovate, 2-4 cm. long, 1-2 cm. wide, acute, deep green and purplish, white-striate on the midnerve, rounded at base, the petioles sheathing below; peduncles short, whitish pilose, the scalelike leaves 2-3, linear; inflorescence 4- to 10- flowered, secund, minutely hairy, the bracts ascending, linear-the sepals, saccate at base, pubescent within,the limb ovate, obtuse; capsule 7-10 mm. long in fruit. Aug.- Sept. Woods;

Honshu (centr. distr. and westw.), Shikoku, Kyushu; rather rare. Korea.
