Korea Flora: Deciduous tree, 5-10m tall. Bark develops corky tissue. Winter buds and branchlets brown, glabrous. Leaves alternate, broadly ovate, long-acuminate apex, broadly cuneate or rounded base, (5)8-12cm × 5-6cm, irregularly doubly serrate margins, glabrous on both surfaces, lower surface green, with fine hairs in vein axils. Petioles 2-3cm long, glabrous. Flowers bloom singly before leaves, 2.5-3cm in diameter, pale pink or nearly white; pedicels 8mm long, somewhat longer than in apricots. Calyx lobes elliptic, glabrous, linear serrations; petals round, 10-12mm long; pistil 15mm long, similar in length to stamens; stigma cup-shaped; lower half of style and ovary pubescent. Fruits drupes, ovoid-globose, 20-25mm in diameter, yellow, densely pubescent, fruit stalks 15mm long. The fleshy portion falls off easily but is astringent.
Flowering: Mid-April. Fruiting: July-August. Distribution: Northeastern China, southern Far East Russia; South and Hamgyeongbukdo s, South and North Pyeongan s, Gangwon , and north of Gyeonggi along the Baekdudaegan mountain range (Korea).
