Japan Flora: Stems erect, 10-20 cm. long, from creeping base; leaves chiefly basal, ovate, 1-2.5 cm. long, 7- 18 mm. wide, acute to subobtuse, rounded to acute at base, the petioles about 1 cm. long, short-sheathing; inflorescence 3- 7 cm. long, 5- to 15-flowered, slightly one-sided, long crisped- pubescent, with 1 or 2 remote scales; flowers white, the bracts lanceolate, appressed to the ovary, shorter than the flowers; sepals deltoid-ovate, 4-5 mm. long, somewhat elongate at tip, obtuse; petals oblanceolate, closely appressed to the dorsal sepal; lip as long as the sepals, inflated below, the limb short, deltoid-ovate, recurved, glabrous within; column about 2/5 as long as the sepals. Aug. Coniferous woods in mountains;

Hokkaido, Honshu, (centr. and n, distr.); rare. Europe, Siberia, Sakhalin, s. Kuriles, Korea, Himalayas, and N. America.
