Korea Flora: Evergreen tree or shrub to 25m tall, trunk to 1m diam. root system spreads irregularly, and bark grayish-brown, larger branches reddish-brown. leaves green and vertically spread. scale-shaped leaves pointed, with those in the center lanceolate and on the sides ovate. leaves broad petioles with small white spots. male cone at the end of last year's shoot, 2-2.5mm long with 10 scales, each with 2-4 seeds. male cone stalk short. seed cones subglobose, 2mm width, 15-20mm long with a light pebble-like color and eight scales, and 2-3 seeds per scales. Seeds grayish brown, ellipsoid and slightly ridged.
Pollination April Seed maturity September.
Distribution; native to northern China, but widely planted. Distributed in Dalseong, Daegu, Yeongcheon-ri in Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, Guri in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Seongryugul in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do.
Taxonomic note: It is classified as a separate genus because of 6-8 seed scales (Thuja koraiense 8-10 scales) and only partially covers the seeds, with almost no wings on the seeds.
