Japan Flora: Annual or bi­ennial, coarsely hirsute and puberulous on stems, leaf-rachis, and peduncles; stems branched, elongate, long-creeping, to 1 m. long, striate; leaves 1-6 cm. long including the short-petiole, the stipules free, lanceolate, about 3 mm. long, the leaflets of 4-8 pairs, oblong, 8-15 mm. long, 3-4 mm. wide, subobtusc, oblique at base, entire, vvhite-pubesccnt especially on under side; peduncles 1-2 cm. long; sepals ovate-oblong, 4-5 mm. long, gradually acute, deciduous, densely pilose on backļ¼› petals yellow, slightly exceeding the sepals; ovary densely pubescent; fruit about 1 cm. across, separating into 5 woody nutlets, each with firm tubercles and 2 thick spines on back. July-Oct. Sandy seashores.

Honshu (Kanto Distr. and Wakasa Prov. and westw.), Shikoku, Kyushu. Widespread in all tropical regions.
