Japan Flora: Perennial rhizomatous herb, rather long glandular-hairy on the vegetative parts, shorter-pubescent on the inflorescence; radical leaves rosulate, ovate to oblong, 2-10 cm. long, 1-5 cm. wide, subobtuse to rounded at apex, rather fleshy, abruptly narrowed below and decuiTent,dentate, often purplish beneath, the petioles 0.5-2.5 cm. long; scapes 10-40 cm. long; panicle loosely many-flowered, the pedicels 5-15 mm. long; calyxlobes recurved, narrowly ovate, about 2 mm. long; petals white, ovate, obtuse, 3-4 mm. long, 3-nerved; stamens nearly as long as the petals, the filaments broadened above; capsules 4-6 mm. long; carpels ovoid, ascending, shortly reflexed at apex; seeds fusiform-ellipsoidal, about 0.7 mm. long, mucronate at both ends, longitudinally ribbed. May-June.

Hokkaido. Sakhalin and s. Kuriles.
