Japan Flora: Stipes 30-60 cm. long, 3-4 mm. across near base, lustrous, 4-angled, dark purple-brown or deep brown, smooth on upper part, scaly at base; blades 40-60 cm. long, 20-25 cm. wide, bipinnati- parted, with a large terminal pinna, the rachis deep brown, lustrous, rounded on back, smooth; lateral pinnae 5-8 pairs, 10-17 cm. long, subsessile, the long-acuminate slightly falcate tip 5-10 cm. long, unlobed and entire on anterior margin or sometimes with a small auricle at base, the terminal pinna reg­ularly pinnatiparted, the costas with a sparsely scabrous line above on each side; pinnules linear-lanceolate, about 8 cm long, 5-10 mm. wide, acuminate, incurved-toothed on sterile mar­gins; costules sparsely scabrous on the upper side.   

Kyushu (Yakushima); rare. Ryukyus, Formosa, China, and tropical Asia.
