Japan Flora: Stems prominendy compressed, sometimes 2-winged, much branched; submersed leaves lin­ear, 4-20 cm. long, 2-4 mm. wide, obtuse and mucronate or abruptly acute, laterally attached on the compressed stem, entire, 3-nerved and with veinlets between the nerves; stipules 2-4 cm. long, withering or caducous; peduncles 2-4 cm. long; spikes about 15 mm. long; nudets broadly obovate, 2-3 mm. long, keeled.    

Reported from Hokkaido. Eurasia and N. America.
