Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub. Height 2-3m. Winter Buds and Stems: Main stem unbranched, densely covered with long sharp prickles. Leaves: Alternate, orbicular, 15-30cm long. Upper surface with prickles along main vein, lower surface densely prickled along veins, margins divided into 5-7 segments with fine double serrations. Petiole (9-20cm) densely prickled. Flowers: Umbels terminal, with brown pubescence, developing at ends of racemosely branched divisions. Calyx lobed or entire; petals and bluish-white stamens 5 each; styles 2. Fruit and Seeds: Ellipsoid-globose, red.

Distribution: Eastern Jilin (China); North and South Hamgyeong-do, North and South Pyeongan-do, Gangwon-do, and Jirisan Mountain in Jeollanam-do along the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range (Korea)
