Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub. Height 3-4m. Stems: Branches spreading in all directions from near base, much-branched. Young branches grayish-brown, 3-4mm in diameter, almost without hairs and thorns. Leaves: Alternate, palmately compound; leaflets 3-5, spathulate or spathulate-elliptic, apex acuminate, base cuneate, 6-15cm long. Margins with fine double serrations; upper surface green, glabrous; lower surface light green with fine hairs along veins. Petiole 3-6cm long. Flowers: In umbels (sometimes considered capitate), developing at tips of new branches, arranged cymosely at spine tips. Main peduncle 1-2cm long, pedicels very short (about 1mm). Flowers purple; sepals triangular with dense pubescence on outside; petals elliptic, 5; styles completely united. Fruit and Seeds: Berries ellipsoid, slightly flattened, 10-14mm × 3-4mm.
