Korea Flora: Rhizome: Short, oblique, with densely arranged leaves. Stipe: 1.5-10 cm long, light green; lower portion with glabrous scales. Frond: Blade elongated-ovate, tripinnate, base not narrowed; 5-15 cm × 2.5-6.5 cm. Pinnae: Triangular to triangular-lanceolate; short-stalked; 1-1.5 cm wide. Pinnules: Stalked; further divided into lobed segments at base; segments with sharp serrations; single vein per tooth. Sori: Elongated-ovate to linear; 1-3 per segment; covering entire segment at maturity. Indusium: 1.5-3 mm long. Similar Species: Asplenium pekinensis Hance distinguished by dense brown hairs on abaxial surface at scale attachment point of stipe base; distribution in southern islands and Dodong, Daegu. Habitat: In rock crevices and stone walls; Dodong (Daegu), Jirisan Mountain, Beomeosa Temple, Hwabangsa Temple, and Jeju Island.
Japan Flora: Rhizomes short, erect to ascending, scaly; stipes pale green, 1.5-10 cm. long, slender, sparsely scaly on lower half while young, the basal scales lanceolate, 2-4 mm. long, long-attenuate, filiform at the tip, those on upper part of stipe and on blade very sparse, fugacious, hairlike; blades ovate to narrowly so, 5-15 cm. long, 2.5-6.5 cm. wide, bipinnate, acute to short-acuminate, not narrowed at base; pinnae spreading, deltoid-lanceolate, 1-1.5 cm. wide, acute to short-acuminate, short-petiolulate; pinnules spreading to ascending, ovate to rhombic-ovate, obtuse to subacute, cuneate at base, short-petiolulate, cut nearly to the base into a few segments; ultimate pinnules herbaceous, broadly oblanceolate, 3-4 mm. long, 1.5-25 mm. wide, cuneate at base, with a few acute teeth and sometimes lobes on upper margin, entire at base; sori few on a pinnule, ascending; indusia 1.5-3 mm. long.

var. pekinense (Hance) C. Chr. Stipes usually about 5 cm. long; blades broadly lanceolate, nearly 15-30 mm. wide, acute; pinnae deltoid to broadly ovate, acute to obtuse, subsessile, the pinnules slightly thicker, slightly broader, more closely arranged, and less cuneately narrowed at base. Occurs with the typical variety.
