Japan Flora: Evergreen; rhizomes long-creeping, about 3 mm. across, densely scaly, the scales membranous, ascending, red-brown, linear-lanceolate, 3-6 mm. long, filiform at the tip, slightly broadened and appressed to the rhizome at base, entire; stipes 5-15 cm. long, remote, usually shorter than the blades, lustrous, often brownish or purplish brown at base; blades firmly chartaceous, simple, linear-lanceolate, 10-30 cm. long, 12-25 mm. wide, obtuse, or rather abruptly acuminate, often cuneately narrowed at base, subentire to undulate, glabrous, often glaucescent beneath; costa rather stout, raised beneath, sulcate above, the veins spreading, slender, the veinlets in­visible; sori superficial, round, about 2.5 mm. across, in 2 series on upper part of blade, slightly nearer the costa than the margin. Tree trunks.

Honshu (Izu Prov. and s. Kinki Distr.), Shikoku, Kyushu; rare. Korea (Quelpaert Isl.) and Formosa.
