Japan Flora: Rhizomes long-creeping, 3-4 mm. across, the scales membranous, ascending to obliquely spreading, deltoid-lanceolate, 4-6 mm. long, acuminate, ciliate, with oblong cell walls and translucent areolae; stipes 10-30 cm. long, usually shorter than the blades, scaly especially toward base; blades firmly chartacé•„lanceolate to broadly so, 25-40 cm. long, 4-7 cm. wide, usually broadest below the middle, acuminate, narrowed at base, decurrent on the stipe, subentire, undulate or rarely irregularly lobed, with ap- pressed small scales beneath and on costas above; costas raised on both sides, the veins 20-30 pairs, obliquely spreading, slender, slightly flexuous, the veinlets scarcely distinct; sori in single series on each side of the costas, often also scattered, round, sometimes elliptic, 3-5 mm. across, covered while young with numerous small peltate paraphyses. Shaded places and on moist rocks in nwuntains.

var. platyphylla Tagawa. Blades larger, 5-9 cm. wide; sori close to the lateral veins. Honshu (Suwo Prov.). Ryukyus.
