Japan Flora: Tree with longitudinally fissured bark; branches glabrous, yel­lowish gray but dark colored around the transversely oblong short leaf-scars; leaves rather loosely arranged, slightly emargi­nate, 2-2.5 cm. long, 1.5-17 mm. wide, with a rather deep groove above and 2 white stomatai bands beneath; cones 3.5- 4.5 cm. long, the several scales entire, concave, 2-2.5 cm. wide, the bracts exserted, reflexed, 3-fid with an acicular entire mid­lobe and denticulate rounded-triangular lateral lobes. Mountains.

Honshu (Kii and Yamato), Shikoku; rare.
