Tree up to 40m, 1.5 in diameter, bark scaly, grayish brown; buds ovoid, glabrous, resinous; leaves linear, 30- 40mm × 2mm, pointed, with 2 broad stomatal bands beneath,  resin canals 2, median; pollen cones narrowly oblong, 15 cm long, yellowish green when young, seed cones 2-3, 3.5 cm long, mature seed cones 10-12cm × 3.5cm, bracts small, appressed on the scale, not exserted. Seeds obtriangular, 12mm × 6mm, brown, wing 13.5mm × 12mm 

2n=24.

Distribution China Northeast and North, Far east Russai; Hamkyong-do, Ryangang-do, Jagang-do, Pyongan-do to Gyonggi-do and Ganwaon-do [China Flora]
