Japan Flora: Scandent subshrub with rather prickly angled branches; leaves chartaceous, lustrous above, duller beneath, broadly ovate to cordate or deltoid-ovate, 5-12 cm. long, 3-9 cm. wide, short-acuminate, cordate or sometimes rounded at base, 5(-7)-nerved, the margin slightly uneven, the petioles 5-15 mm. long, with tendrils; umbels simple, solitary, relatively many-flowered, the peduncles 1-2 cm. long; stami- nate tepals 4-5 mm. long, ascending, subrecurved on upper half, the outer ones broadly lanceolate, the inner ones narrower; stamens slightly shorter than the tepals, the anthers linear-oblong, about 1 mm. long; fruit globose, blue-black, about 6 mm. in diameter. May-June.

Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu. Korea, China, and Formosa.
