Japan Flora: Tree; branchlets lustrous, red­dish brown, glabrous but short-pubescent od main axis; leaves slightly compressed, 1-2 cm. long, 1-1.3 mm. wide, acuminate; cones narrowly ovoid, 6-12 cm. long, the scales obovate, rounded or slightly narrowed at apex, obscurely toothed. Mountains.

Honshu (centr. distr.).

var. acicularis Shiras. & Koyama Branchlets minutely pubescent; leaves recurved; cone-scales subentire.  Honshu (Yatsugatake in Shinano); rare.

var. reflexa Shiras. & Koyama Branchlets minutely pubescent; leaves shorter; cone-scales smaller, entire with slightly elongate reflexed tip.  Honshu (Akaishi mountain range); rare.
