Japan Flora: Unarmed shrub with pale yellowish brown branches, soft-pubescent only while very young, the fertile branchlets rather short; leaves membranous, 3-foliolate, the leaflets loosely pubescent on both sides or only on the nbrves beneath, the terminal leaflet broadly rhombic-obovate, acute, incised or' doubly toothed, 3-7 cm. in diameter, the stipules narrowly lanceolate, the petioles pubescent; flowers solitary, nodding, deep pink, the pedicds 3-6 cm. long, pubescent and with a few stipitate glands; calyx 15-18 nun. long, pubescent and glandular-pubescent, the tube broad, the segments ovate, acute; petals ovate-orbicular, ascending to obliquely spreading, 15-20 mm. long; fruit globose, yellowish red, the fruitlets glabrous; stones about 4 mm. long, pitted. June-July. Alpine regions.
