Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub, 1.5m tall. Branchlets ridged, glabrous, purplish-brown. Leaves alternate, narrowly elliptic, acuminate apex, cuneate base, 3-8cm × 3-4cm; on sprouts, leaves may reach up to 10cm long; margins singly or doubly serrate below the middle; glabrous on both surfaces, lower surface grayish-green. Petioles 5-10mm long, glabrous. Inflorescences compound racemose, borne terminally on new shoots, nearly glabrous; inflorescence diameter 7-8(10)cm, very large. Flowers 7-9mm in diameter, white with a pale pink center; calyx lobes reflexed; petals round, 3mm in diameter; stamens about twice as long as petals. Ovaries 4-5, pale pink at the base along with the stamen filaments. Fruits 3mm in diameter, glabrous except for double vascular bundles.
Flowering: May-June. Fruiting: September. Distribution: Sichuan, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan, and other inland and northern regions of China; South and North Pyeongan s to Jirisan Mountain, along the Baekdudaegan mountain range (Korea).
