Japan Flora: Woolly-pubescent coarsely branching tree with stout branches; leaves broadly oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, 15-25 cm. long, 3-5 cm. wide, acute, gradually narrowed at base, deep green, deciduous woolly- pubescent above, loosely toothed, sessile or the petioles about 1 cm. long, the stipules lanceolate-deltoid; inflorescence densely flowered, terminal, erect; fruit globose to pyriform, 3-4 cm. across, yellow. Nov.-Dec.

Honshu (w. distr.), Shikoku, Kyushu. China. Much planted for the edible fruit.
