Japan Flora: Tree with pyramidal crown and stout branches; leaves ovate- to obovate- oblong, 8-15 cm. long, 5-7 cm. wide, abruptly short-acuminate, irregularly obtuse-toothed, spreading-pilose beneath especially on nerves, the petioles 3-5 cm. long; flowers 3-5, in umbels, white; calyx-tube contracted above.  Apr.-May. Europe.
