Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub, 1-1.5m tall. Winter buds and branchlets ridged, glabrous. Leaves alternate, elliptic, narrowly elliptic, or oblanceolate, obtuse or slightly acute apex, 1.5-5cm × 0.8-1.2(2.0)cm, very small; cuneate base. Leaves on flowering branches nearly entire but occasionally with a few serrations at the apex. Glabrous on both surfaces, lower surface whitish. Petioles very short, 2-3mm. Inflorescences terminal on new shoots, compound racemose, 5cm in diameter. Flowers 7-9mm in diameter, white; pedicels and calyx tube sparsely pubescent. Calyx lobes spreading; petals round, emarginate apex; stamens about 20, similar in length to petals. Fruits follicles, densely covered with brown hairs.

Chromosome number: 18.
Flowering: Late May to mid-June.
Fruiting: Late August.
Distribution: Southern Liaodong (China), northeastern Inner Mongolia, southern Shanxi; South and North Pyeongan s along the Baekdudaegan mountain range, Gangwon , Chungcheongbuk , and Gyeongsangbuk (Korea).
