Japan Flora: Perennial with coarse spreading hairs; rhizomes short-creeping; stems 20-40 cm. long, slender, loosely branched in upper part; radical leaves spathulate, rounded at apex; cauline leaves oblanceolate, 2-6 cm. long, 7-12 mm. wide, obtuse, the middle and upper ones sessile and semiclasping; racemes 10-25 cm. long, bract­less or bracteate only at base; calyx shorter than the pedicels, with spreading hooked hairs; corolla blue, 6-8 mm. across; nudets ovoid, dark brown, smooth, lustrous, 1.5 mm. long, slightly flattened, with a ridge on the ventral side. May-July. Woods in mountains.

Hokkaido, Honshu (centr. distr.); rare. Eurasia and Africa.
