Japan Flora: Smaller, 5-10 cm. high; stems obsoletely 4- angled; leaves broadly lanceolate to narrowly ovate-oblong, 5-12 mm. long, 3-5 mm. wide, obtuse, with a translucent margin, rather thick and deep green, short-sheathed at base; flowers 1-4, blue, 15-22 mm. long, sessile; calyx-lobes narrowly ovate, acute and recurved, about 1/3 as long as the tube; corolla 2-2 J4 times as long as the calyx, the tube gradually broadened in upper part, the plaits spreading in anthesis. Aug.-Sept. Wet places, alpine;

Hokkaido, Honshu (centr. and n. distr.).
