Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub. Height up to 7m. Twigs: Fine branches fine hairy, thick, and 6-20mm long. Leaves alternate, odd-pinnate compound leaves, glossy with a strong fragrance. 7-13 leaflets, ovate or elongated ovate, size 2-5cm × 1-3cm. The central leaflet has a petiole. Margins transparent glands and wavy teeth. Thorns often on rachis and leaf veins. Petioles and rachis narrowly developed wings. Flowers dioecious. short panicles, 4-6cm in diameter, growing in leaf axils. male flowers 5-6 sepals and 5 stamens. female flowers 5-8 sepals and 2 pistils. reddish with glands. Seeds 5mm × 4mm.

Distribution: Central and southern China, Taiwan; Jeju Island in Korea.
Taxonomic note: Although Rehder (1926) had already published that the species distributed in Korea was Z. simulans Hance, which is found in inland China, Nakai published Z. coreanum Nakai in 1930 without confirming this information.
