Japan Flora: Glabrous dioecious tree with thick, prickly branches; leaves 30-80 cm. long, petiolate, the leaflets 19-23, subsessile, broadly lanceolate, acuminate, emarginate, rounded at base, obtusely serrulate with a pellucid gland in each sinus; inflorescence a dense many-flowcred terminal cyme; calyx-lobes minute, semirounded; petals greenish yellow, about 2.5 mm. long. Korea Flora: Korea Flora:Deciduous tree. Height up to 15m. Winter buds and twigs: Semicircular, with 3 bud scales, 4-8mm long. Branches develop thorn-like protrusions 2-4mm in length.
Leaf scars: Heart-shaped, with 3 vascular bundle scars. Leaves: Alternate, odd-pinnate compound leaves, 40cm × 2.8-3.5cm in size. 19-23 leaflets, thick and broadly lanceolate, with acuminate apex and cuneate base. undersides grayish-brown, 7-12cm long, with linear fine serrations and short petioles. Flowers umbel-like panicles with 12cm long peduncles. sepals round, and petals elongated oval. Fruits circular, 5-6mm in size. Seeds 4mm.

Ecological characteristics: Light-demanding and grows well in disturbed areas. Exhibits rapid early growth.
