Russia Flora: Plant branching, up to 60 (100) cm tall. Stems straight or geniculate at nodes, erect, sometimes procumbent, more or less pubescent, especially at nodes. Leaf blades pinnately dissected. Lower and terminal segments 3-lobed, middle segments with 1 (2) entire lateral and one 3-lobed terminal segments, along margin with 2 quickly falling sepals. Corolla 4-petaled. Ovary unilocular; style clearly visible, thick, cylindrical; stigma indistinctly bilobed-capitate, slightly wider than style. Fruit a unilocular many-seeded silique-like, somewhat flattened capsule 2-6 (8) cm long. Seeds 1-1.5 mm long and 0.5-0.8 mm wide, black, shiny, with appendage. 2n=10 (Probatova, Sokolovskaya, 1986).

Distribution: Okhotsk, Aldan, Dauria, North Sakhalin, Upper Zeya, Lower Zeya, Bureya, Amgun, Ussuri, South Sakhalin, South Kuril (Fig. 15). - In light forests, forest edges, windfall areas, burnt areas, along stream and river gravels, as a weed near dwellings. May-August.

General distribution: Japanese-Chinese. - Described from Japan.

Note: Within the monotypic genus Chelidonium L., a second species has been recently described. It appears that Ch. majus L. with 2n=12, which is distributed in the European part of the country and in Siberia, is replaced in our region by an independent species that differs in morphology and chromosome number.
