Japan Flora: Evergreen tree; leaves coriaceous, oblong to obovate-oblong, 5-12 cm. long, 2-4 cm. wide, obtuse, 3-ncrved from above the base, white, glabrous or slightly appressed-pubescent beneath, the petioles 8-15 mm. long; flowers reddish, the pedicels hairy, 7-8 mm. long; fruit ellipsoidal, slightly longer than the pedicel, with a small cup-shaped perianth-tube at base, black. Mar.-Apr.

Honshu (Kanto Distr. and westw.), Shikoku, Kyushu. Ryukyus and Korea.
