Korea Flora: Evergreen shrub. Height 2-3m, branches dense and glabrous. Leaves: Alternate, thick and glossy, elliptic-hexagonal with spine-tipped angles, 3.5-6cm × 1.0-3cm, both surfaces glabrous; upper surface dark green, glossy; lower surface yellowish-green. Petiole 2-5mm long. Flowers: In umbels, 5-6 flowers per leaf axil, peduncle 5-6mm long, glabrous. Flowers 7mm in diameter, fragrant; pistil without style, stigma slightly elevated, divided into 4 black lobes. Fruit and Seeds: Fruits globose, 8-10mm in diameter, red; seeds 4, ovoid, trigonous, 6mm × 4mm, yellowish-green, with thick and hard testa. Fruiting peduncle 10-15mm long.

Flowering Period: Early September
Fruiting Period: Mid-October to mid-December
Distribution: Northern to Southern China; Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Jeju Island (Korea)
