Korea Flora: Description: Deciduous shrub, 3-4m tall. Winter buds ovoid, apex acute, with 15-16 brown scales, densely long-pubescent; elongated buds well-developed. Pith hollow.Leaves spathulate or ovate-elliptic, 5-12 × 2.5-6.0cm; apex acuminate, base rounded or broadly cuneate; margins entire; adaxially with yellow hairs becoming glabrous; abaxially densely pubescent on veins and margins; petioles 3-7mm long.Flowers axillary; peduncles 15-25mm long, pubescent and glandular; bracts equal to or longer than ovary, glandular with bracteoles. Calyx 5-toothed, pubescent; corolla pale yellow or changing from white to yellow, 15-20mm long, pubescent; tube short, base laterally spreading, upper lip divided to middle. Stamens and style pubescent; ovary ovoid, glandular.Fruit ovoid-globose, red; seeds 3-3.5mm long.

Distribution: Northern and northeastern China, Russian Far East, eastern Hokkaido (Japan); North and South Hamgyeong-do, North and Pyeongannamdo-do, Gangwon-do to Jeollanamdo-do, mainly along Baekdudaegan. Taxonomic notes: Sometimes misidentified as L. chrysantha due to long peduncles or fruit stalks. Distinguished from L. chrysantha by: hollow stem pith (vs. solid), very short petioles, abundant yellow pubescence throughout plant, separate ovaries, and distribution mainly along Baekdudaegan (vs. L. chrysantha with solid pith, relatively long petioles, early-deciduous leaf pubescence, partially fused lower ovaries, and southern distribution).
