Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub to 5m tall. Winter buds ovoid-globose with 14-16 scales; vascular bundle scars 3. Pith hollow; branchlets with curly hairs.Leaves opposite, ovate-elliptic, long-spathulate or ovate-lanceolate, 5-7(10) × 2.0-3.0(3.5)cm; apex abruptly acuminate or acuminate, base broadly cuneate or rounded; margins entire; veins glabrous or pubescent; petioles 3-10mm long, glandular-pubescent.Flowers fragrant, axillary; peduncles 2mm long, longer than ovary, glandular-pubescent; paired bracteoles connate, soft-pubescent. Calyx 3mm long, deeply 5-lobed, margins ciliate; corolla 2cm in diameter, changing from white to yellow; petals 13 × 4mm, obtuse; tube 3mm long. Filaments 7-10mm long, pubescent at base; anthers 4mm long, yellow; style 10mm long; stigma yellowish-green.Fruit separate, ovoid or globose, 3-5(7)mm long, red.
Chromosome number: 2n = 18. Flowering May-June Fruiting late September to late October. Distribution: Northeastern, northern, central and southern China, scattered in northern and central Honshu (Japan); North and Pyeongannamdo-do, North and South Hamgyeong-do, Hwanghae-do, Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do, North Gyeongsang-do, Chungcheongbukdo-do, along Baekdudaegan range.
