Japan Flora: Rhizomes long-creeping, with rather stout roots from the nodes; stems 20-40 cm. long, with spreading, crisped hairs and few membranous sheathing scales at base; leaves 2, nearly opposite, near apex, many-nerved, plicate, pilose on the nerves, flabcllate-suborbicuhr, 10-15 cm. long, 12-20 cm. wide, trimcately rounded and abrupdy acute to cuspidate at apex, cuneate to rather truncate at base, undulately toothed; peduncles solitary, 1-flowered, 10-15 cm. long, pubescent; bract oblong, acuminate, 3-6 cm. long, many-nerved; flowers yellowish brown; ovary densely pubescent; lateral sepals narrowly oblong, about 5 cm. long, wholly connate; petals nearly as long as the sepals, with long crisped hairs inside at base; lip slightly longer than the perianth, hairy inside near base. Apr.-May. Woods and bamboo-forests in lowlands;

Hokkaido (Oshima Prov.), Honshu, Shikoku, Kynshu; rather common. China.
