Japan Flora: Roots elongate, slightly thick ened; stems 20-50 cm. long, slender, 2-Ieaved on the lower part, with scalelike leaves toward the top; larger leaves sub-approximate, oblong to broadly oblanceolate, 8-13 cm. long, 1- 5 cm. wide, rounded to acute, narrowed to the base; spikes 3- 15 cm. long, the bracts narrowly lanceolate, long-acuminate, nearly as long as the flowers; flowers greenish, rather numerous, the dorsal sepal ovate, 3-nerved, obtuse, 2-3.5 mm. long, the lateral sepals spreading, narrowly oblong, obtuse, 3-4 mm. long; petals narrowly ovate, obtuse, thickened; lip 3-4 mm. long, obtuse, 3-lobed, the lateral lobes deltoid, small, the terminal lobe rather thick, linear-oblong, obtuse, slightly reflexed at tip; spur linear, 5-7 mm. long. July-Aug. Grassy places and woods in low mountains;

Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu. Korea, China, and Ussuri.

Russia Flora: Plant up to 40 cm high, with or without 1 brownish sheath at the base. Stem straight, thin, with 2 well-developed lower leaves and 2-4 small upper leaves, glabrous. Lower leaves up to 13 cm long and 5 cm wide, oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, with stem-clasping petioles; upper leaves up to 2 cm long and up to 0.4 cm wide, linear-lanceolate, sheathing, acute . Inflorescence up to 9 cm long and 1.7 cm wide, cylindrical. Bracts similar to the upper leaves, the lower ones longer, and the upper ones shorter than the flowers. Upper lobe of the outer perianth whorl up to 2.5 mm long, obtuse, rounded-ovate; lateral ones up to 3 mm long, oblong-ovate. Lateral lobes of the inner perianth whorl up to 3 mm long, oblong. Lip up to 3 mm long, oblong-lanceolate, with 2 obtuse triangular lobes at the base. Spur up to 5.5 mm long, slightly shorter than the ovary.

Ussuri (south), indicated for Western Amur (Voroshilov, 1985) and South Kurils (Miyabe et Kudo, 1932). - Glades, edges of deciduous forests, among forbs, shrub thickets. Rarely found. VII-VIII. - General distr.: Japan-China. - Described from Primorye: "Am obem Ussuri bei Cap Zazir und bei Tshaintung" (type - LE).
