Japan Flora: Herb with a short woody base; stems erect, slightly 4-angled, glabrescent, slightly stellate-pilose on upper part; leaves lanceolate to oblong, 3-7 cm. wide, cuneate at base, acuminate, slightly stellate-pilose only while young; spike terminal, erect, the bracts scalelike, closely imbricate, caducous, orbicular, conspicuously cuspidate; corolla pale yellow.  Sept.-Oct. Woods;

Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku.
