Korea Flora: Deciduous vine. Length up to 2m. tubers present. Leaves alternate, palmately divided into 5 lobes; the outermost lobes are the smallest and further divided into 3, while other lobes are palmately or pinnately divided. Margins sparsely toothed. Petioles and nodes are winged and glabrous. Petiole length 1-6cm. Flowers bisexual, in cymes opposite to leaves; peduncle 3-8cm long, twisted. pale yellow flowers. calyx divided into 5 parts, 5 petals and 5 stamens, with 1 pistil and a disc. Fruit and seeds: round, 5-7mm in diameter, white, purple, or blue, with spots, containing 1-2 seeds.

Flowering: Late June to early August

Fruiting: Late August to mid-October

Distribution: Central to southern China; Hwanghae-do and South Pyongan-do in North Korea

Japan Flora: Leaves palmate, with ternate-pinnate leaflets on a jointed, winged rachis; flowers pale yellow, in pedunculate cymes.  A climber from China, rarely cultivated for medic­inal purposes.
