Japan Flora: Erect, slightly pubescent perennial herb; stems angular, 60-80 cm. long, often branched above; leaves very short-petioled, the stipules obliquely ovate or semi-ovate, dentate, the leaflets 4-8, thinly chartaceous, ovate to broadly lanceolate, 4-10 cm. long, 2-3 cm. wide, long-acuminate or very acute, with reticulate veinlets especially prominent be­neath; racemes densely flowered, one-sided, 2-3 cm. long, often branched at base, the peduncles absent or to 6 cm. long, the bracts lanceolate to ovate, green, 5-8 mm. long, acuminate, often serrate; flowers bluish purple, 12-15 mm. long; calyx­teeth short; legumes glabrous. July-Aug.

Hokkaido, Hon­shu (Echigo Distr. and northw.). China.
