Japan Flora: Nearly glabrous branched deciduous shrub, branches green, slightly flattened, with a deep groove on each side; leaves lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 3-6 cm. long, 1-1.5 cm. wide, long-acuminate, acute to subrounded at base, serrulate, glabrous except the midrib puberulent on the upper side; flowers 1 or 2 near the top of last year’s branchlets, the pedi-cels glabrous, about 3 mm. long; corolla small, urceolate; berries obovoid-globose, purple-black, about 9 mm. in diameter. High mountains;

Kyushu (Yakushima); rare.
