Japan Flora: Rhizomatous and stoloniferous, appressed-pilose perennial; stems somewhat tufted, 10-40 cm. long, erect, simple or slightly branched; leaves ob­long or ovate, 1.5-5 cm. long, 1-3 cm. wide, obtuse and mucro­nate, or rounded at both ends, petiolate; racemes 1-5, sessile, 5-10 cm. long, densely many-flowered, the pedicels 1-2 mm. long or subsessile, erect, appressed to the axis; calyx-segments 0.5-1 mm. long; corolla pale blue, 2.5-3 mm. across, the tube less than 1 mm. long; stamens inserted on the middle of the tube, the anthers about 0.3 mm. long; nutlets dark-brown, smooth, lustrous, tetrahedral, without appendages, about 1 mm. long on back. Wet places along streams and ravines in mountains;

Honshu (especially on Japan Sea side from Kinki to Hokuriku Distr.). Shikoku, Kyushu; rather common. Korea and Northeastern China.
