Japan Flora: Stems long-creeping, loosely leafy, 0.5-0.7 mm. wide, or 5-6 mm. wide inclusive of the leaves; branches short, 1-3 times forked, 3-5 cm. long, prostrate, with ascending tips, densely leafy; leaves of the lower plane horizontally spreading, flat, ovate, about 3 mm. long, about 2 mm. wide, acute or acutish, rounded at base, entire, those of the upper plane appressed, 2-2.5 mm. long, short-acuminate, strongly auriculate at base; fertile branchlets slender, scarcely more than 1 mm. across, 4-angled, the bracts deltoid-lanceolate, suberect, about 1.3 mm. long, gradually acuminate, entire or obsoletely denticulate. July-Oct. Damp woods in hills and lowlands;

Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu; rather common. The typical variety occurs in Formosa, China, and Malaysia.
