Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub to 2m tall. Winter buds lanceolate; branch scales persistent at base of new shoots. Branches with solid white pith; branchlets purplish-brown, glabrous.Leaves opposite, ovate or elliptic-ovate, (3)4-5.5 × 2-2.5cm; apex acute, base broadly cuneate or rounded; both surfaces glabrous; margins entire; veins 5 pairs; petioles 2-5mm long, glabrous.Flowers in axils of new shoots; peduncles 4-5mm long. Bracts 5-10mm long, shorter than bracteoles, ovate, glandular; bracteoles connate, dish-shaped. Corolla white or pale yellow, 12mm long; upper lip 3-lobed, longer than tube; tube swollen at base. Stamens 4, equaling petals; style slightly longer.Fruit ovaries fused to upper portion; fruit globose, 6-8mm in diameter, red.
