Japan Flora: Evergreen shrub; leaves subcoriaceous, elliptic to broadly obovate, 4-6 cm. long, 2.5-4 cm. wide, caudate, with an obtuse tip, glaucous  beneath, densely pale brown-pubescent while young, glabres- cent, except the midrib, the veinlets rather prominent, the petioles 5-10 mm.  long; peduncles absent, the pedicels 3-4 mm. long at anthesis, pubescent. Apr.

Chinese shrub often planted in warmer parts and sometimes naturalized.
