Evergreen shrub  up to 3m, grayish brown and scally; leaves appearing 2-ranked, linear, 2.5- 4.0cm × 0.3-0.5cm (sprout leave 7-8cm), deciduous after 4-5 years, abruptly mucronate, dark green above, with 2 rather broad grayish stomatal bands beneath; Dioecious, pollen cones 5mm long, borne 20-30 together, bracts 10, seed cones borned 2, seed scles 5mm long with green bract, 8-10 per seed cone; Aril green, 17-18mm wide, seeds ovoid,  about 2.5 cm. long, greenish. 

2n=24.
Pollination March- April
Seed maturity of Sept-Oct of 2nd year
Distribution Japan Honsh west to Kyushu; Gyonggi-do to Jeolla-do
Ecological characterisits very strong shade tolerant, growing in mexic sites
