Japan Flora: Rhizomes rather stout; terminal leaflets broadly obovate or cuneate-orbicular, 15-30 mm. long, 12-25 mm. wide, rounded at apex, broadly cuneate at base, glaucous to green above, prominently glaucous beneath, glabrous above, with appressed to ascending long soft pubescence beneath especially on the nerves, the petioles long-pubescent; scapes J- to 3-flowered, with appressed to ascending pubescence; flowers 15-25 mm. across; stamens about 2 mm. long; receptacles glabrous, ovoid to narrowly ovoid in fruit, about 8 mm. across, the achenes in pits, smooth. June-July. Alpine regions.
