Japan Flora: Rhizomatous; stems tufted, erect, 60-100 cm. long, declined or ascending in upper part, simple, loosely pilose or nearly glabrous; leaves membranous, narrowly obovate or broadly oblanceolate, 10-20 cm. long, 3-10 cm. wide, long- acuminate, usually auriculate at base, scattered-pilose above, loosely spreading-pilose on nerves beneath, the petioles 5-12 mm. long; flowers 1-3, in axillary cymes; calyx 1-1.5 cm. long at anthesis, ovoid-globose, to 18 mm. long in fruit, the lower lip at anthesis shorter than the upper; corolla rose­colored, tubular, 4-4.5 cm. long, with a short upper lip; nut­lets 7-8 mm. long, elliptic, glabrous, flattened. Aug.-Sept. Wet places along streams and valleys.

Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku.
