Korea Flora: Deciduous tree. Height 20m. Winter Buds and Terminal Buds: Terminal buds elongated-ovate, apex pointed; terminal buds much larger than lateral buds, 6-10mm long. Branches thick and yellow, pubescent when young but soon becoming glabrous. Leaf scars heart-shaped or circular. Leaves: Alternate, odd-pinnately compound, 25-40cm long including petiole; leaflets 9-11, ovate or elliptic-ovate, apex acuminate, base rounded or broadly cuneate, 7-20cm × 3-6cm, upper surface commonly pubescent, lower surface with spreading hairs along veins. Margins entire. Flowers: Polygamous, panicles in leaf axils, pendulous, 15-25cm long, with spreading hairs. Yellowish-green; 5 sepals and 5 petals; staminate flowers with 5 stamens, pistillate flowers with 5 staminodes and 1 pistil with 3 divided styles. Fruit and Seeds: Asymmetrically globose, 6-8mm in diameter, light yellow, glabrous and lustrous.

Distribution: Native to China; naturalized and cultivated throughout most of the country
