Japan Flora: Rhizomes erect, covered with the stubs of old stipes; fronds tufted; stipes 3-15 cm. long, straw-colored in upper part, brownish and densely scaly near base; scales linear to broadly lanceolate, about 1 cm. long, 1.5-3 mm. wide; blades herbaceous, broadly lanceolate, 15-25 cm. long, 5-9 cm. wide, acuminate, narrowed at the base; pinnae 10-15 pairs, lanceolate, acute to acuminate, sessile, pinnately lobed to parted; pinnules oblong, obtuse to acute, toothed; sori median, with paraphyses among the sporangia; indusia oblong, straight, sometimes athyrioid, erose-ciliate. Rocky cliffs in mountains.
