Korea Flora: Deciduous shrub, winter bud acute, 2-6 mm long with 2 bud scales, pseudoterminal bud is as long as or shorter than lateral bud. Leaf scars triangular and large., young branches often puberulous. Leaves alternate, pinnately compound, leaflet 3-10cm × 3-5cm, puberulent beneath, the leaflets sessile, ovate, 4-10 cm. long, 3-5 cm. wide, acuminate to acute, coarsely and irregularly toothed. Inflorescence paniculate, 25-35 cm. long, spreading-puberulous; flowers about 1 cm. across, yellow, short-pedicelled; calyx-lobes 5, petals 4 reddish at base and reflexed, stamens 8, slightly shorter than the petals, the filaments loosely pubescent on lower half. capsules 3-angled, 3-valvate, dehiscent, acute, rounded at base, glabrous, 40-50 mm. long, seeds roud and globose, blackish and shiny.

July.
Often naturalized near seashores and sometimes planted around temples of Honshu. Korea and China.
