Japan Flora: Perennial herb, long-pubescent on stems and leaves; stems several to­gether, 5-20 cm. long, ascending, decumbent in fruit, with several pairs of scalelike oblanceolate leaves 1-2 cm. long at base; canline leaves oblong or oblong-spathulate, acute and long-decurrent on the petiole at base, 3-5 cm. long, 1-1.5 cm. wide in anthesis, 8-10 cm. long, 2-3.5 cm. wide in summer leaves, with few obtuse lobes on margin; flowers several in leaf-axils, subsessile; closely related to A. yesoensis but larger; flowers blue-purple, the upper lip erect, 2-3 mm. long, deeply 2-lobed. Apr.-June.

Honshu (Tokaido, W. Musashi Prov. and s. Shinano Prov.).
