Japan Flora: Stems 40-70 cm. long; leaves ovate to oblong, 8-13 cm. long, 3-6 cm. wide, acuminate, subcordate and clasping except a few lower ones; inflorescence axillary and terminal, few- to several- flowered, densely soft-pubescent, the peduncles distinct; flow­ers white with purple spots, the tepals 1.5-2 cm. long, flared on upper half, acute, the outer segments broadly lanceolate, the inner narrowly oblanceolate.  July-Sept.

Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu.

f. hirsuta Masam. Plants hirsute. 

f. glabrescens Masam. Plants glabrescent.

var. chugokuensis (Koidz.) Ohwi. Cymes terminal and axillary, several- flowered, on longer pilose pedicels and peduncles. Honshu (Chugoku Distr.); rare.
