Japan Flora: Bulbs broadly ovoid, 4-5 cm. in diameter; leaves appearing in late autumn, elongating in spring, soft, pale green, 18-25 mm. wide, strap-shaped; scapes rather stout, 50-70 cm. long; flowers large, several, the involucral bracts broadly lanceolate, 2-4 cm. long, the pedicels 1-2 cm. long, the perianth 9-10 cm. long, pale rose-purple, the tube about 2.5 cm. long, the segments obliquely spreading, oblanceolate, about 15 mm. wide; stamens not exserted. Aug.-Sept.
Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu; often planted in our gardens.
